I Am Loved.

Remember those little red lapel pins that some jewelry store gave out long ago that proclaimed, “I Am Loved’? Well this isn’t about that. This post is about getting a little blogging award from the very sweet Vicki. She loves my blog, and I’m so flattered.

So now…I’m proud to post a little jpeg and will dutifully follow the rest of the rules (as copied from Vicki):

1) Add the logo of the award to your blog
2) Add a link to the person who awarded it to you
3) Nominate at least 7 other blogs
4) Add links to those blogs on your blog
5) Leave a message for your nominees on their blogs

Following are seven other blogs on which I’d like to bestow the same award. If you haven’t already done so, check ’em out!

1. Blog A Go-Go, Deanna Raybourn’s blog, in which I find all sorts of interesting books, music, and life recommendations. (And stay apprised of her really excellent series).

2. Frog and Toad are Still Friends, one of the first blogs I started reading consistently. I’ve never stopped. Beck’s writing is so sweet and sassy and poignant–it’s irresistible.

3. Melissa Walker’s blog, which keeps me up-to-date on all the new YA books, fashion trends, and general cool stuff.

4. A Place for Originals, group blog of Mary Danielson, Stephanie Janulis, and Kelly Krysten–it’s all about writing, books, and life. And sometimes men. These girls have got attitude.

5. Putting the Sara in Sarakastic. This girl has a sense of humor like no one else. Seriously.

6. Eileen Cook’s blog. She’s always got the low-down on weird stuff happening in the world. And, of course, good books.

7. Tessa Dare’s Diary. A lovely journal with lots of good writing information and fascinating hypothetical questions.

Zip…and a book

Virtually nothing of interest is going on here. Sunday I got a flu shot (woo-hoo!) and then yesterday I do believe I had a mini-flu reaction–basically I was sick to my stomach, dizzy, and a little headachy. I’m better today, but my arm still hurts where the shot poked through, so I guess you could say I’m still in recovery.

I did spend yesterday reading though (why not take advantage after all) and must hype the book. It is The Explosionist by Jenny Davidson. Set in 1930’s Scotland, with the premise that Napolean was victorious at the Battle of Waterloo, the story explores the coming-of-age of a clever, self-possessed school girl savvy enough to use all resources available to her to solve a plethora of tangled-up mysteries. There’s brainwashing, a seance, a chase scene, eavesdropping, murder, and more. Fifty pages to the end, I’m very much enjoying it.

GG and SS

I shunned Gilmore Girls the entire time it was on in primetime (well, not exactly shunned–I don’t watch a lot of TV, what I watch is generally with my husband, and he wasn’t enthused. Anyway…), but then sat through marathon viewings of consecutive seasons (with my husband, I might add) until the big finale. That was last summer, sliding into fall, and now, it seems, I’ve latched onto the Gilmore Girls as a ‘fall show’. It was lovely to get caught up in a show where they enjoyed actual seasons, with changing leaves and first snows… So, Season One is on reserve again at the library.

Now on to the point of this post… I was doodling around yesterday, wondering if the show’s writer/producer Amy Sherman-Palladino had recently created any other gems. I stumbled over a very interesting little chat, and being a fan of both Gilmore Girls and Sesame Street, I couldn’t help but be intrigued.

In case you don’t care to follow the link, basically the guy was comparing GG’s wacky Kirk with SS’s kooky Grover, and all I can say is that the man has some pretty solid substantiating evidence. Although…I can’t say that I’m aware of Kirk having a super-power identity. Then again, what do I know? He also compared Luke to Oscar the Grouch, which is really kinda dead-on. These comparisons got me thinking about other similarities between the shows’ characters. Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Ernie and Bert: Lorelai and Emily Gilmore
Ernie is wacky and silly and effusive and Bert is quelling and disapproving (huh? huh? You’re seeing it, aren’t you?)

Big Bird and Snuffleupagus: Rori and Lane
Big Bird is happy-go-lucky and friendly with everyone, and while Lane isn’t exactly an imaginary friend, her whole persona, as far as her mom’s concerned, is imaginary.

Zoe and Elmo: Ms. Patti and Babette…

Sookie: Cookie Monster (when she’s cooking?)

There’s something there, isn’t there? Anybody else have a comparison?
