Sheer Awesomeness

I have to admit…I’m fascinated by this wedding video. I can’t help but think my own wedding processional was troublingly staid compared to this one. I think the sunglasses make all the difference. Behind the shades you can pretend you’re someone else–someone with fewer inhibitions and more rhythm. I would have LOVED to attend this wedding. Even the rehearsal must have been awesome to behold.

I’ve emailed our bridesmaids, groomsmen and ushers, included the link, and asked if they’d be up for a redo. So far, only my sister and sister-in-law have responded. They’re both in.

Life Predictions and Afternoon Tea

In the interest of keeping my kids busy and not hanging on the dog and running rampant through the house, today’s little project was a mini essay on what they thought they’d be doing when they were my age (37, in case you’re wondering). I’m delighted to report that the older wants to be President and have a puppy, and the younger will be living in Japan, ‘with the training of a ninja’, along with his sidekick, the fire skink (a recent Petco discovery). Maternal pride is just oozing out of me.

My own little project this afternoon was making these blueberry muffins–they smell soooo good cooling that I’m having trouble waiting the requisite 15 minutes post-baking time.
Rather than my semi-standard afternoon Dr. Pepper, I whipped up an iced chai tea with vanilla soy milk–pretty tasty. I’m hoping to enjoy both tea and muffin with my latest library catch, The Finishing Touches by Hester Browne before trekking back to the Sportsplex for yet another baseball game this evening.

Got a minute?

My tenth wedding anniversary passed without event–my husband and I had talked of taking a trip somewhere, but nothing ever came of it. Now, almost five years later, I’m getting my trip! Thanks to uber-low fares from Southwest, we are flying to Portland, Oregon this fall, just the two of us. And while this greatly anticipated trip is still months away, I’ve already started planning.

It seems like I’m hearing about Portland in some way or another almost every day. In magazines, on the blogs I read, on the Food Network–Portland, I’m convinced, has A LOT to offer. So now I’m on the hunt, scrounging to find all those mentions that seem to have hovered in my brain right up until the very moment that I need them–right now!

Don’t get me wrong–I’ve already jotted down several not-to-miss spots (like the Waffle Window!), and I intend to be diligent in my further search (including a perusal of all Diners, Drive-ins and Dives spots and Throwdown with Bobby Flay venues). But I could use some help. If you are in possession of knowledge that could help me find the Best of Portland (and surrounding areas)–outdoors, shopping, eateries, you name it–I would truly be in your debt.

If we work together, we can really make this an awesome vacation for yours truly. And doesn’t that sound like a noble pasttime? I knew you’d see it my way. I’ll look forward to your comments.
