Getting my money’s worth.

The search for a bathing suit is making me C R A Z Y! I have been wearing the same old plain Target bathing suit (swim shorts and a tankini) forever. Why? Because I can’t find anything like it to replace it. In eight years of looking!! I do not go to the pool/beach/lake to lie around. I go to swim/tube/play. I do not want to be constantly worried about my bathing suit inching up or inching down in the relevant places. Add to that, I do not like a bathing suit to tie around my neck. It’s uncomfortable (at least to me–it makes my neck ache), and yet, as far as I can tell, probably 80% of women’s suits do that. Oh, and I don’t want a one-piece: too much of an ordeal to go to the bathroom. Picky, picky, I know.

I would like to see someone wearing one of these retro Anthropologie suits this year…but not me.

Wanted: Advice from Cool People

Last year I collected all the photos and video I had of each of the boys’ classes and created a little end-of-year video for each, set to music. Both classes watched it during their end of year party. It’s that time of year again, and I’m on the hunt for a soundtrack (or two). Here are some of the songs under consideration:

Dancin’ in the Streets…Billy Idol

Heatwave…Martha and the Vandellas

You Make My Dreams Come True…Hall and Oates *recently rediscovered via 500 Days of Summer

Here are a couple that were considered but rejected

Celebration …Kool & The Gang *gotta love it, but it’s overdone

YMCA …The Village People *ditto

I’m So Excited …The Pointer Sisters *maybe a little inappropriate

I Will Survive…Gloria Gaynor *more for me than them

I feel that–just maybe–I need to fast-forward things twenty or thirty years. Any suggestions for age appropriate spunky dance music??

Last year, I used a series of Disney Mania songs like When You Wish Upon a Star and Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride. If that helps.

An Update

As I wait and hope for my second book to fall into the hands of a publisher who loves it, and wants to lavish publicity money on it, I am slowly getting entrenched in the writing of number three. Very slowly. I mentioned that I did a lot of pre-planning and brainstorming for this book. (Well, a lot for me), but it hasn’t necessarily made the writing easier. It may very well eliminate the need for so much re-writing (please, please, please), but so far, I’m just wading in, getting a feel for things, slowly spreading my writing wings once again as I get to know these new characters and their unique world.

I wonder if every book will be like this or if one day, a new story will just write itself, each word slipping down through my nerves, from brain to fingers, right onto the page. Wouldn’t that be nice.

Until then I’m plodding and hoping.
