It’s a ‘Good Thing’ *

Yesterday and today I made Martha Stewart’s gingerbread caramels. The recipe is a bit involved, but it makes a sizable tray full of spicy, gingery, delicious caramels. Which some poor soul must then cut into bite-size rectangles to be wrapped (by the same poor soul) individually in wax paper. If I had a whiskey barrel in my kitchen, I could seriously fill it up with caramels, and it would be like old-time penny candy. Just the one kind though. And I’d probably charge more than a penny. It’s the thought that counts.

* a Martha-ism.

Book Hoarder and Unashamed

I was cleaning out my son’s closet and stumbled over these…

You might wonder what they were doing in the closet and not in a bookshelf, so I will tell you. It wasn’t too long ago that they came into our possession, and I admit, I just dumped them in the closet to go through at a later time…and then promptly forgot about them.

They belonged to my husband and his sister, but I didn’t realize they were quite so old. A lot of them are from the 50’s and 60’s. There are Little Golden Books and Jumbo Golden Books (probably not the correct terminology). And while I don’t have any kids left who are reading this level (except the Nancy Drew and Beezus and Ramona, which would no doubt be pegged as ‘girl books’), I feel that I have to keep them. Their illustrations and their timelessness simply charm me.

What can I say, I’m ga-ga for books!

California Dreamin…

I am NOT AT ALL enthused when my husband throws out the idea of renting an RV and roadtripping around the country, but I could maybe get on board with that idea if I had this trailer, belonging to Enjoy Cupcakes in Los Olivos, California. Check out their flavor list–it is insane!

I’d want it stocked with cupcakes, naturally, and parked in the shade.
