Secrets Revealed

If you’re interested, David Cranmer of The Education of a Pulp Writer has posted an interview with me.

I found it fascinating…

Characters *Definitely* Welcome

I really have to give kudos to the USA Network for coming up with such a quirky, irresistible lineup of shows.

The psychic detective/goofball haphazardly solving murders with his straightlaced sidekick (Psych)

The debonair ex-con art thief working with the savvy FBI agent (White Collar)

The emotionally damaged CIA operative just finding her feet (Covert Affairs)

and, everybody’s favorite,

The explosive trio of vigilantes raining justice down on bikini-clad Miami (Burn Notice)

These are truly among my favorite shows. And how savvy was it for USA to stagger their programming, offering up new shows in the summer months when network channels are taking a hiatus. Genius.

I watched a DVR’d Psych last night, an episode that spoofed The Fast & the Furious a bit, right down to the crazy nicknames. (Sidekick Gus ended up being dubbed Mrs. Whittleberry and one of the street racing dudes was nicknamed Juice Box. Both had me giggling.) After that I felt I needed a nickname. This site was recommended, but both my mafia and gangsta names were rather crude. My pirate name, on the other hand was Puffy Shirt Corliss. I could maybe work with that. (Unless that’s crude too and I don’t even know it!!)

Questions

I’ve been given an author questionnaire, well two actually. One, quick and easy with questions like, ‘What book did you buy on the cover alone?” (I probably could have listed ten easy…) and ‘What celebrity would you like to have lunch with?” (I typed in Zooey Deschanel) The other questionnaire is a doozy, requesting information about bookseller contacts, specific markets for the book, a detailed biography, and plenty more.

The one that will likely remain unanswered for the longest is the question that asks that I come up with 5-10 self-interview questions to ask and answer. The difficulty will not lie in coming up with questions, but in coming up with questions that I’d like to answer. I’ve already done a bit of question research–David Cranmer has come up with an awesome medley for his 7 Questions Series, and after texting a friend for suggestions this morning, they have been coming in rapid-fire every few minutes.

Some of her suggestions:

“If you had no time or money constraints for a whole day, what would you do?”

“If you could be a superhero or have a superpower, what would it be?”

The Classic: “Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?”

I want these to be fun to answer and read if at all possible, but also sort of broad in scope–and not the same questions you see in every author interview, so if you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them. Or if you have a question you’ve been dying to know the answer to, let ‘er rip!
