Cool Cover

Look at this cool bookcover on a book I ordered for my boys from Scholastic Book Clubs…  It’s about a kid who finds a rather unique ‘dog’ that can switch back and forth between a boy and a wolf.  I think I captured the creepiness with my amateur filmmaking.

I wonder if there’s any way Kensington can incorporate one of these little switcheroo windows (obviously I don’t know what they’re called) onto my book cover.  That would be awesome.

Impossible to resist…

I went to the bookstore today for the express purpose of purchasing a keeper edition of Emma, and barely got out of there for under $25. Believe it or not, sometimes I go in a bookstore, and nothing grabs me. Like an overwhelming feeling of ‘Eh.’ And sometimes I go in thinking, I can get that from the library…or I’ll wait for that to come out in paperback…or I’ll add that to my Amazon order to push the total past $25 and get free shipping.

Not so today.

Today I bought a nice, hefty, substantial version of Emma, and also The Dark Road to Darjeeling by Deanna Raybourn, book four of the Lady Julia Grey novels.  I have loved this series, which follows the often shocking exploits of an inquisitive and intellectual Victorian widow, including her romantic involvement with the unorthodox Gypsy detective Nicolas Brisbane.  And the book itself is beautiful…the colors, the simplicity, the Indian-inspired edging on the midnight black book flaps.  I can’t wait!

I also bought The Captive for my younger son.  No doubt inspired by the movie coming out tomorrow (Guardians of Ga’hoole–don’t those owls look majestic??), he checked out book six in the Ga’hoole series from his school library.  Well apparently that triggered an unexpected urgency inside me.  He can’t read book six first!  Ludicrous!  And since book one is not available at school or at either of the two libraries we frequent, I need to buy it.  It makes no sense to wait!  He might check out book three, and then book eight…  The madness has to stop!

So that made it to the checkout counter on my stack too.  I literally had to wrench myself away from the new book display in the kids section.  I could have done some serious damage.

The Stuff of Dreams

I’m completely impressed with this person’s level of creativity and her endurance at keeping this going so long (there are two dreamscapes a week, totalling more than forty in all. They’re irresistible and you can’t look at just one…
I guess she’s keeping her advertising muscle exercised.

I wonder if this baby has any idea what is going on during her naps…

Thought I might take up a similar project with my dog, but she’s not cooperating too much.

I considered getting her on the floor and creating a grass & sky scene and then positioning a frisbee so that it looks like she’s flipping over backwards to catch it, but the situation hasn’t presented itself. (I’m not sure if we own a frisbee either). I don’t think this is going to pan out. But if it does, you can bet I’ll be posting.

**New idea: I could try to create a two-dimensional trampoline, and she could be doing flips on that! Oooh! Or maybe she could be doing trapeze work–a circus dog!! Maybe when this book is done…
