Details & A New Show

Okay, perhaps it’s best if I give a little bit more clarification on the whole ‘Post my widget, win an ARC’ setup.  I was so distracted by getting my widget setup and having my bookmarks come in that forgot to mention the contest details.  So sorry!

I should be receiving my ARCs sometime in the next couple of weeks.  In order to be entered in the contest, you need to keep the widget posted until that point in mid-October.  Naturally, I’d LOVE it if you kept it up for the entire countdown, but you’ll have to decide that for yourself.  I will post here, and on Facebook and Twitter when the ARCs come in, and I will choose a random winner from anyone still having the widget posted.  This will be the first ARC I send out!!

Here is the list I currently have–a lovely list of blogs, by the way:   (If you’re not on this list but have posted the widget and would like to be entered, please let me know ASAP!)

Claire at La Collezionista di Dettagli

The Lizzies at Old Friends & New Fancies

Rebecca at A Word’s Worth

Melissa at Green Girl in Wisconsin

Lúthien at My Love for Jane Austen

Hardly any competition…  Good luck to you all!

In other news, I was really quite thrilled with the turn-out I had to my Practical Magic Blog Party quiz.  There are more practicing witches around than I ever would have imagined!  And plenty of superstitiousness too!

Lastly, did anyone watch Pan Am last night?  I have to say, I think it looks promising.  It reminds me of Catch Me If You Can, which I LOVED, and then there’s the whole spy dynamic, and all the visual lovliness of the 1960’s set.   Butters is not so sure…

  1. Hey!

I have added the spiffy widget to my blog on the sidebar! YAY :)

    Heather
    SupaGurl Books

  2. now up at FHC ~ happy to post it! =)

  3. Alyssa,

I’m a wordpress newbie. I am having trouble posting your widget to my blog. I think it is an error with the Java Script. Will trouble shoot later today. Otherwise, if you have some step by step instructions (maybe from a Widgets for Dummies manual), that would be great. :)

    Happy Monday!

      Hey Blake,
Once you click, “Get Widget,” choose the Flash tab instead of the Java tab and copy and paste that code instead. I had trouble too. :)

  4. Sundee Miles

I was one of the confused. Thank you for putting it out there again. Love the story concept of JA with a little magic.

  5. Alyssa Goodnight

Thanks, Sundee! (You didn’t post the widget, right? Just want to make sure…)

  6. I don’t have a blog so I guess I’ll just have to buy it! I missed Pan Am. I loved Catch Me If You Can and wanted to see it. Maybe next week…

  7. Hi Alyssa,
I added the widget to my blog! :) http://wordsareinnermusic.blogspot.com
As for PanAm, I didn’t watch it but its on my list! I thought it looked a bit like Catch Me as well, and I adore that movie! :)

Thanks, Valia! I think you’ll like Pan Am. I’m hoping I will continue to like it. :)

  8. Hey Alyssa,

I’ll be posting it if I can figure out the coding. I’m giving up for tonight. FYI it’s the wordpress.com blogs that are the problem. They don’t allow java or flash technically but you can theoretically change the flash code into a gigya shortcode and get it to work. I swear I’ve done it in the past but I can’t figure this one out. Here’s the instructions if anyone else wants to give it a shot: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/07/22/gigya-shortcode-3-widgets/

Scary, right? (My brain so does not think in code… it’s too close to math)

    :)

Hey Bex (and anyone else having trouble with WordPress…)
Have you tried clicking the ‘Get Widget’ button, and then selecting the WordPress button for the code?

Thanks for all your efforts to get it up there!

    • Yes, unfortunately that code contains javascript and only works if you are using wordpress software. If you don’t use the software but are hosted at wordpress.com, it won’t work. It’s confusing but there are basically two utterly different kinds of wordpress.

…cuz you kinda wanted a lesson on blogging platforms in your comments, right? lol.

Say no more… :) Sorry for the trouble. I will create a small static ad for those wishing to post to WordPress.

        • Oh, no trouble. It’s good for me to learn this stuff anyway. If you want to hold off on making the static ad, I’m asking someone for help so when he gets it worked out I’ll come back and post a link to the code for anyone else that wants to post the whole widget.

  10. This sounds like a fabulous book! I have the widget up on my site, and would be more than happy to leave it there until the book is released! It would be even better if I had an ARC to review for my site! 😉

I take it that the story is set in Austin, Tx…one of my daughter’s favorite t-shirts is ‘Keep Austin Weird’!

Thanks for the chance to read the ARC!

    • Alyssa Goodnight

Thank you so much, Kate! You are correct–the story takes place in Austin, and the ‘Keep Austin Weird’ shirt has it’s own little part… :) Good luck!

  11. Hey Alyssa … It’s good to catch up with you again!
I missed PanAm but am looking forward to seeing future episodes. Have a great day!

    • Alyssa Goodnight

Hey Silver Strands! Glad you stopped by! I think you’ll like Pan Am–I’m already looking forward to the next episode.

Bex, you are a rock star! Thank you!
