Baby and Chateautriband Makes Two

Yesterday the wife of a co-worker of my husband’s had her first baby. Normally this would not be blog material for me, but the fact that she had it at home definitely is. (I’m shaking my head in disbelief even as I’m writing this…) First baby…midwife at home–I keep wondering if it all happened in the bathtub. Now I assume everything went swimmingly, with no complications, but WHAT IF IT HAD NOT??? Any number of things could have gone wrong, and then what do you do? Plus, who cleans up the mess?

So…back on track…first baby. She happened to be born on her father’s birthday, and her father decided to celebrate the day (meaning her birth, not his birthday) by making Chateaubriand. Okay, so in one part of the house, a baby is being birthed, and in another, a tasty main course is being prepared… I wonder if he had some opera music cranked up to drown out any pesky screeches from the other room.

So…Chateaubriand and wine and cake. We were all invited over. Yes, hubby, the boys, and I were all invited over for cake and wine in the aftermath of the birth. We took a rain check. I don’t know the baby’s mama too well, but you can bet I’m going to find a way to ask all the weird questions.

  1. That is one brave woman. Glad everything went safely for her.

    I probably won't ask for her midwife's number though . . .

Yeah, that's too original for me.

  4. Umm wow…

  5. Our number three was a home birth.
It all went well and was a wonderful experience.
But I don't think we'd have done it again if we'd had a number 4.
And we'd have never dreamt of doing it with bub number 1.

I have to say I don't get the whole cake thing.

  6. I can't imagine why you wouldn't have gone over. lol

As for doing it at home, surely she was checked out in advance to know it should be a relatively normal birth and would have made other arrangements accordingly? I would have looked into going that route myself, had I had children. (Seriously)

Definitely a novel in there.. Anyone who gives birth without an epidural is a hero to me. :)
