Chocolate Jimmies for Hair!

Hubby’s birthday is Saturday, and that’s the one day of the year that I’ll cater to his somewhat questionable culinary whims. His preference is typically strawberry cake from a mix, topped with premade strawberry frosting–gag! Other favorites include lemon cake (from a mix), spice cake, and gingerbread. He much prefers artificial flavors. This year, the year of my cake-pop experimentation, I was rather surpised to be informed that, not only would my husband like cake-pops for his birthday treat–he wanted spice cake cake-pops, wait for it….decorated to look like him. And he wanted to take them in to share them with his co-workers. ?!?!?!? This is a previously undetected side of my husband, and I’m still not quite sure what to make of it.

If any of you remember, it was all I could do to make my first effort look like the chicks and bunnies they were supposed to be–I hardly felt ready for human features (particularly noses, which I’ve never been good at rendering). But I decided to take one for the team and give it a shot. Judge for yourself, but I don’t think I did him justice…

Waiting for costuming…

My Cakemation husband, and a photo for comparison…

The easy way out…

And the festive leftovers…

My wife makes lemon cake from a mix that I like a great deal. Anyway, happy b-day to your significant other.

The lemon is waaay better than the strawberry, David. In my opinion.

I'll forward on your good wishes. :)
